"When I first came to the program, I was afraid that I could not be really good at karate, or even keep up with the younger students, because I was 62. Shihan, told me simply but logically, pace yourself.
I have since come to be more confident in myself, I've gained a lot of flexibility and stamina, that I thought I could not have at my age, that was almost a year ago.
This illustrates the old adage, that with a good mentor, and enough courage and persistence any goal can be achieved.

"My experience at Shishikan has been an unforgettable one. The day I walked in and tried an introductory class I was amazed at the level of karate being taught. Master was teaching throws, locks, weapons and katas to all students ranging from introductory level to advance level. I personally was on a quest seeking for a master and a dojo that I was going to call my home away from home. Master Kevin Pereira’s teaching skills, such as explaining, knowledge, patience and motivation are extraordinary. Every class I participate not only do I learn the technique but also learn the application of the technique. Many martial arts dojo teach you the technique however never teach or explain how to apply the technique and much less the purpose of the technique. I am amazed at how much master has learned at his young age and how humble he maintains. In many classes master takes time out and explains techniques, past teachings, past experiences and teaches karate is a never ending growing process. I am privileged to call Shishikan my second home and to be taught from the founder himself Master Kevin Pereira.

"I have to say that I'm extremely pleased being a member of the Shishikan Karate Jutsu Dojo. From day one , the instruction provided by Shihan Pereira was direct and to the point. It was without the flash and flair of other forms of karate which I feel don't provide real life applications. Not to say that other forms of karate are useless but when you examine the world we live in. Shishikan is a great mix of techniques which can be applied with minimal effort and offer immediate impact. In my time with Shihan Pereira, I've seen a Master who gives 110% to his students as well as to the Arts. He is a Martial Artist in every sense of the word. Most recently, I've had the pleasure of accompanying Shihan Pereira to a Martial Arts Seminar in Bethlehem PA. " Since my child Diamond who is 9 years of age been attend karate master kevin has taught my daughter so much she used to be so angry because the kids teased her in school and she had no outlet to release the anger and can see it affecting her in her school grades they were dropping from A's to D's now because of what master kevin and his work with my child she has flourish from a hurt caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly I am so proud of her I have seen big changes in both of kids my son Josiah attends his program to he had problems with balance and now he is doing a lot better this program keeps my kids busy and in line thanks to master kevin and his work and dedication he takes great pride in what he does and he taught my children that too" Rosanna Moskowitz.

"I have been blessed. I know it is hard for most people in todays age to say the same,but I have. My extended shishikan family has been nothing but supportive, warm, accepting, and caring. This, of course begins with, and ends with shihan kevin pereira. A man with whom the wisdom of the arts knows no bound. It was not by accident that I chose shishikan. Fate, I believe brought me into the lion house; and, destiny will keep me there. With real life techniques, genuine moves anyone can learn to not only defend themselves and their family, but grow into a new being. I have learned to see the world in a different light, and understand that any and everything can be used to my advantage. From the first day I have been taught to defend against guns, knifes, and whatever else my unfortunate opponent decides they want to use. My favorite part of shishikan is watching shihan pereira, as he himself gets more excited than his students when they master a move. "You guys look damn good" I have heard him say added with "if you look good I look good" shihan understands that we, his students are branches of his tree.
